LightCompass does not collect your personal data. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and we operate no servers. Everything it knows — your location, your plans, your settings — stays on your iPhone. Its only network requests fetch public map, elevation and weather data, and those requests carry no identifiers.
None. We operate no server that could receive your information, and the app sends nothing about you to us. We cannot see where you are, where you plan to shoot, or how you use the app.
LightCompass asks iOS for permission to use certain device capabilities. Everything below is processed on your iPhone.
Your position is used to compute where the sun, the moon and the Milky Way are (and will be) for the place you are standing or the place you pin on the map. All astronomy is calculated on-device. The app remembers the last location you used, on the device only, so the next launch can start from a sensible place. Your location is never uploaded to us — see section 3 for the one case where a coarse, rounded value derived from it leaves the device.
The AR view draws the sun and moon paths over the live camera image so you can preview tonight's light against the real scene. Frames are shown live and then discarded: LightCompass does not record, store, or transmit anything from your camera.
When you tap "Add to Calendar" on a shoot plan, LightCompass writes that event (with an optional reminder) into your calendar. The app requests write-only access: it cannot read, browse, or change your existing events. Events you add are yours, live in your calendar, and can be deleted there at any time.
The terrain features (3D horizon profile, ridge-corrected sunrise and sunset) download elevation
tiles from the public AWS Open Data "Terrain Tiles" dataset
(elevation-tiles-prod.s3.amazonaws.com). These are plain, unauthenticated downloads:
no account, no API key, no device identifier, no cookies. The request contains only standard map
tile coordinates — your viewing location rounded to a grid of roughly 10 km squares. Downloaded
tiles are cached on your device and reused offline. We receive nothing: the dataset is operated as
a public service, not by us.
The Milky Way quality indicator downloads a cloud-cover forecast from the Norwegian Meteorological
Institute's free public API (api.met.no, data licensed CC BY 4.0). The request
contains only your viewing location rounded to roughly 1 km — no account, no API key, no device
identifier. The app identifies itself with a fixed application name string, as that service requires
of all clients. Responses are cached on your device, and the app never requests weather while you
are not using it. Light-pollution data is bundled inside the app and involves no network at all.
The map screens use Apple Maps, and place search sends your search text and the currently visible map region to Apple, exactly as Apple's own Maps app does. In-app purchases are processed by the App Store. These exchanges are between your device and Apple and are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
LightCompass Pro and the expansion packs are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple — not LightCompass — processes the payment. We never see or receive your name, payment card, or billing address. The app only asks StoreKit, on your device, whether an active entitlement exists. The launch free period is likewise determined on-device from the App Store's install record. Your purchase is subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement.
LightCompass keeps your settings (theme, distance unit, map layers, onboarding state), your saved shoot plans, the last location you used, the free-period anchor date, and the cached elevation tiles in the app's own storage on your iPhone. None of it leaves the device, and all of it is deleted when you delete the app. The only exceptions are calendar events you explicitly added — they remain in your calendar, under your control.
LightCompass contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and do not track you across apps or websites. Because we collect nothing, we have nothing to sell or share, and we do not.
LightCompass is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, or delete personal data a company holds about you. We hold none. If you want to remove everything LightCompass has stored, delete the app — that erases its settings, saved plans, and caches from your device. Calendar events you added can be removed in the Calendar app.
If a future version of LightCompass ever changes how it handles data, we will update this page and the effective date above before that version ships.

사용자가 서 있는 곳, 또는 지도에 핀으로 찍은 곳을 기준으로 태양·달·은하수의 현재와 미래 위치를 계산하는 데 사용합니다. 모든 천문 계산은 기기 안에서 수행됩니다. 다음 실행을 적절한 위치에서 시작하기 위해 마지막 사용 위치를 기기에만 저장합니다. 위치가 저희에게 전송되는 일은 없습니다 — 위치에서 파생된 대략적 값이 기기를 벗어나는 유일한 경우는 아래 3절에 설명되어 있습니다.
AR 화면은 실제 풍경 위에 태양과 달의 경로를 겹쳐 보여 줍니다. 카메라 프레임은 실시간 표시 후 즉시 버려집니다. LightCompass는 카메라로부터 어떤 것도 녹화·저장·전송하지 않습니다.
촬영 계획에서 "캘린더에 추가"를 탭하면 해당 일정(선택 시 알림 포함)을 사용자의 캘린더에 기록합니다. 앱은 쓰기 전용 권한만 요청하므로 기존 일정을 읽거나 열람하거나 수정할 수 없습니다. 추가된 일정은 사용자의 캘린더에 남으며 언제든 그곳에서 삭제할 수 있습니다.
지형 기능(3D 지평선 프로필, 능선 보정 일출·일몰)은 공개 AWS Open Data "Terrain Tiles"
데이터셋(elevation-tiles-prod.s3.amazonaws.com)에서 고도 타일을 내려받습니다. 이
요청은 인증 없는 단순 다운로드입니다: 계정도, API 키도, 기기 식별자도, 쿠키도 없습니다. 요청에
실리는 것은 표준 지도 타일 좌표 — 조회 위치를 약 10km 격자로 반올림한 값 — 뿐입니다. 내려받은

지도 화면은 Apple 지도를 사용하며, 장소 검색 시 검색어와 현재 보고 있는 지도 영역이 Apple에 전송됩니다 — Apple 기본 지도 앱과 동일한 방식입니다. 앱 내 구입은 App Store가 처리합니다. 이 통신은 사용자의 기기와 Apple 사이에서 이루어지며 Apple의 개인정보처리방침이 적용됩니다.
LightCompass Pro와 확장팩은 Apple의 앱 내 구입 시스템으로 판매됩니다. 결제는 LightCompass가 아니라 Apple이 처리합니다. 저희는 사용자의 이름·카드 정보·청구 주소를 보지도, 받지도 않습니다. 앱은 기기 안의 StoreKit에 "유효한 이용 권한이 있는가"만 묻고, 출시 무료 기간 역시 App Store의 설치 기록으로부터 기기 안에서 판정됩니다. 구매에는 Apple 표준 최종 사용자 사용권 계약이 적용됩니다.
LightCompass는 설정(테마, 거리 단위, 지도 레이어, 온보딩 상태), 저장한 촬영 계획, 마지막 사용 위치, 무료 기간 기준일, 고도 타일 캐시를 iPhone 내부의 앱 저장 공간에 보관합니다. 어느 것도 기기를 벗어나지 않으며, 앱을 삭제하면 모두 함께 삭제됩니다. 유일한 예외는 사용자가 직접 추가한 캘린더 일정으로, 사용자의 캘린더에 사용자의 통제 아래 남습니다.
LightCompass에는 분석 도구, 크래시 리포팅, 광고, 그 어떤 형태의 추적도 없습니다. 광고 식별자(IDFA)를 사용하지 않으며 다른 앱이나 웹사이트에서 사용자를 추적하지 않습니다. 수집하는 것이 없으므로 판매하거나 공유할 것도 없고, 실제로 하지 않습니다.
LightCompass는 아동을 대상으로 하지 않으며, 만 13세 미만을 포함한 누구로부터도 정보를 수집하지 않습니다.
GDPR·CCPA 등 개인정보 보호법은 기업이 보유한 개인정보에 대한 열람·정정·삭제 권리를 보장합니다. 저희는 보유한 것이 없습니다. LightCompass가 저장한 모든 것을 지우고 싶으시면 앱을 삭제하시면 됩니다 — 설정, 저장한 계획, 캐시가 기기에서 함께 지워집니다. 직접 추가한 캘린더 일정은 캘린더 앱에서 삭제할 수 있습니다.
향후 버전에서 데이터 처리 방식이 바뀌는 경우, 해당 버전이 출시되기 전에 이 페이지와 위 시행일을 갱신합니다.
